The Masaru Kohno "Professional" model represents one of the finest eras of Japanese concert guitar making. Built during Kohno's mature period in the early 1980s, this 1983 example showcases the extraordinary craftsmanship, tonal sophistication, and refined aesthetics that established Masaru Kohno as one of the most respected classical guitar makers of the 20th century.

After studying in Madrid under Arcángel Fernández, Kohno blended traditional Spanish concepts with the precision and refinement of Japanese luthiery, creating instruments admired by concert artists around the world. His guitars from this period are increasingly appreciated for their powerful projection, rich overtone content, and exceptional clarity.

This guitar features a beautiful spruce top paired with a visually striking set of Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The walnut finish gives the instrument a warm vintage appearance, beautifully complementing the dramatic figure of the Brazilian rosewood and elegant purfling throughout the body.

Tonally, this guitar offers outstanding note separation, strong projection, lyrical trebles, and deep piano-like basses with impressive sustain. The 648 mm scale and 52 mm nut width provide a comfortable modern playing feel while retaining the authority and dynamic range expected from a true concert instrument.

This example remains in excellent vintage condition and includes a signed label by Masaru Kohno. A wonderful opportunity to acquire a mature-era Kohno Professional model with highly desirable Brazilian rosewood construction at an attractive price point.
