Tone Description:
Open, dry, woody, and incredibly articulate with impressive projection for a small-body instrument. The Adirondack top provides excellent headroom and clarity while the mahogany body delivers the focused midrange and quick response that make vintage 0-18s exceptional fingerstyle and recording guitars.
Mill Valley Guitars is pleased to offer this beautiful and highly musical 1946 Martin 0-18, an exceptionally responsive postwar small-body Martin with outstanding playability and classic dry mahogany tone.
This guitar features an Adirondack spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, producing the quick response, woody midrange, and warm vintage character that has made 1940s 0-18 Martins increasingly sought after by fingerstyle players, recording artists, and collectors alike.
This example has already received a professional neck reset some years ago and currently plays beautifully with comfortable low action. The previous owner has had it for nearly 30 years. She played concerts o recorded on this instrument.
The guitar is structurally healthy with no body cracks present. There is honest cosmetic wear throughout consistent with an 80-year-old instrument including finish wear on the top and back. A small cosmetic finish line/check is visible on the back of the neck but does not appear structural.
The guitar retains excellent vintage character and resonance with a lightweight, responsive feel typical of post-war Martins from this era. This guitar would make an outstanding studio instrument, fingerstyle companion, or vintage Martin investment piece.
